Acquire skills, UNIBEN VC tells students as ASUU strike persists

.

The Vice Chancellor of University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof. Lilian Salami has appealed to Nigerian students not despair, but acquire vocational skills, ahead of the resolution of the trade dispute between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and federal government.

Recall that Nigeria public Universities have being shutdown since February 14, 2022 over alleged failure of the federal government to implement the renegotiated 2009 agreement, request to deploy University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) to replace existing Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) enrolment (IPPIS) and other issues of concern.

The Vice Chancellor gave the advice on a Radio interview on Wednesday in Benin City where he advised the students to shun vices and brace for serious academic work as soon as the strike is called off.
