Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State Governor, has emerged as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
His nomination was announced and confirmed by Atiku on Thursday in Abuja where he unveiled his running mate in the 2023 Presidential election.
Okowa who did not participate in at the 2023 PDP presidential primary election held in Abuja, is set to appear before the PDP screening Committee as at the time of filing this report.
Recall that Wike, who has been the foreman in the radar of the PDP heavyweights was speculated to be selected as the vice presidential candidate of the main opposition party, was rumoured to have been selected as Atiku’s running mate.
On Wednesday, the PDP dismissed reports that its selection Committee has conceded to the choice of Nysom Wike, Rivers State governor as the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate in a Press statement signed by its national Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
The statement, according to report, contradicted the earlier decision of the PDP selection committee which had recommended Wike as the running mate to Atiku over Okowa.
Wike polled 237 votes behind Atiku who secured 371 delegates votes at the primaries.
Meanwhile, supporters of governor Godwin Obaseki, has taken to social media to celebrate the defeat of Wike over the lingering differences between the duo which was occasioned by the disagreements between party members over the structure of the party in Edo State.
