The Oyo State house of Assembly has initiated an impeachment process against the State deputy governor, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, barely four months after his counterpart in Zamfara State, Mahadi Ali, was shoved out of office by the legislature.
The action of the Lawmakers in Oyo State, followed a petition titled “Petition and notice of an allegation of the deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, and signed by 24 out of 32 members of the Assembly, comes 40 days after he announced his defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in the State to All Progressives Congress (APC).
The petition against Olaniyan, is contained in a 5-point petition alleging gross misconduct, abuse of abuse, financial recklessness, abandonment of office/official duty, insubordination and other offences during Wednesday’s plenary.
The petition was read by the Clerk of the House, Mrs Yetunde Awe who was directed by the Speaker of the Assembly to write the deputy governor, directing him to respond to the allegations within seven days.
It read, “Consequent upon listed below, we the under listed elected Honourable members of the 9th assembly hereby allege the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Eng. Rauf Olaniyan with the following allegations.
“Gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office, official duty ani Insubordination and other offences.
“This is in accordance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended in 2011. Section 188″.
