Police authorities have confirmed an attack on a speed boat passengers by suspected pirates in Bayelsa State.

The hostages were said to be returning from Egwe-ama in Brass Local Government Area of the State after a burial ceremony when the incident happened.

Spokesman of the Nigeria police Command in Bayelsa State, SP. Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident.

He said six out of the 15 hostages who were in the boat, have been rescued by police operatives.

Butswat told reporters that efforts are ongoing to free the remaining hostages.

According to him, “The passenger boat was attacked on Monday, June 13, 2022 and seven passengers were reportedly abducted.

“We have commenced investigation into the incident,” Butswat said.
