President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians of a peaceful, and transparent process of electing leaders in 2023 general elections.
Buhari who said this in his nationwide broadcast on Sunday to mark 2022 Democracy Day Celebration, assured of security of security of lives and property.
The President urged Nigeria’s to come together and work with the federal government towards building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
He said, “I remain committed and determined to ensure that a new president is elected through a peaceful and transparent process”,
“Fellow Nigerians, this is my last Democracy Day speech…By this time in 2023, you will already have a new President”, Buhari said.
He also urges Nigerians to work together towards the attainment of peace and a peaceful transition in memory of late Chief Moshood Abiola, the presumed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential election in Nigeria.
According to him, “Your rights to choose government will be preserved and protected. I therefore take this opportunity to ask all Candidates to continue running issue-focused campaigns and treat opponent with dignity.
“As leaders, you must all showcase high character and never forget that the world is watching us and Africa looks up to Nigeria to provide example in governance”, he said.
He further said the sacrifices of such heroes should guide their actions when it comes to electing leaders and holding them accountable.
