Security operatives have arrested an escapee from one of the Custodial Centres of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in Edo State.
The male escapee whose identity is yet to be ascertained was handcuffed and apprehended on Thursday evening, three weeks after laying to NCS Custodial Centre on Sapele road,.which was breached during EndSARS riot by hoodlums on October 20, 2022.
The escapee in company of a dreadlocks wearing man cloaked in shreds outfit, had converted some of the trees opposite the prisons by Edo State High court Complex by the traffic light in Benin City as his own shelter.
Our Correspondent learned that the escapee, believed to be about 45 years old, denied his photograph and resisted arrest, prompting the operatives to descend on him.
He was thereafter pushed into a waiting security van after the insane man wearing dreadlocks
who was about 40 meters away from the Correctional facility, had bolted away after sensing danger.
A curious mini bus driver who stumbled on the scene, told our Correspondent that he had attempted to plead for his release during interrogation by the operatives.
But he explained that he backed down after one of officers gave him a stern warning after showing him a photograph of the escapee who had been declared missing.
A functional Android camera phone was allegedly recovered from the escapee who has been wandering about the locality.
Investigation revealed that a member of Edo State Vigilante Network (VGN), had recently threatened to behead the escapee while wandering about a nearby Doctors quarters in Ezoti Street in the City he if is found wanting.
An official of the Nigerian Correction, Edo State Command, confirmed the incident, but did not give details because he is yet to obtain a clearance from his superior.
