The governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo has celebrated Cardinal Peter Ebere Okpaleke on his appointment as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of the State.

Okpaleke’s elevation from the position of a Bishop to Cardinal in the Catholic church was approved by His Eminence, Pope Francis recently.

He is the second Cardinal to be promoted to occupy the exalted office after late Cardinal Arinze who hailed from Ekwulobia Community, which is the Country home of the visibly elated Governor.

On Sunday evening, governor Soludo described the appointment of Cardinal Okpaleke as a new dawn.

He stated that he is “particularly excited that this canonical privilege is coming to my home Diocese, and the generality of Anambra State; another indicator of excellence for which the “Light of the Nation” is renowned.

“This is the Lord’s doing and it is marvellous in our eyes”, Soludo wrote on his Facebook, “At noon, today, May 29, 2022, after the recitation of the Regina Caeli, His Holiness Pope Francis announced that at a Consistory scheduled for August 27, 2022, he will create 21 new Cardinals.

“Among those to be created cardinals is His Lordship, Most Rev. Peter Ebere Okpaleke, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia”, he said.
