The Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II has urged concerned authorities not to denigrate efforts of military personnel who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

He however appealed to the government to provide social welfare for their children and widows including the wife of former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), late Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru.

Attahiru, was killed in a plane crash in Kaduna State along with 10 other military officers a year ago and was thereafter replaced a few days later with the current Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The traditional ruler made the remark when he received the Nigerian Army officers Wives Association (NAOWA) led by its President, Mrs Ramatu Faruk Yahaya in Benin City, Edo State.

According to Oba Ewuare, “It is not easy for the Nigerian military wives at home. When you see in some instances where the women are informed about what has happened to their husbands at the war front and so on and so forth. It is very emotional and painful experience.

“We always pray that your husbands should not come across
occupational hazards.

“We also appreciate the work that you are doing to support yourselves, for widows of military personnel and indeed the society.
