EFCC arrests Okorocha over alleged N2.9bn fraud

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Senator Rochas Okorocha in connection with ongoing N2.9 billion fraud case against him by the agency.

The former Governor of Imo State was picked up on Tuesday evening from his house Maitama after the agency broke into the residence amidst gunshots.

Recall that on January 24, 2022, the Commission, filed a 17-count criminal charge bordering on diversion of public funds and assets running into N2.9 billion against the former Governor who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was therefore granted bail, and thereafter jumped bail, according to EFCC, which accused of refusing to honour its invitations on the transactions that happened during his tenure as Governor of the State.

Okorocha was Governor of the State between May 2011 – 29 May 2019, and was thereafter elected as the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial district.
