Father arrested after selling son for N600, 000, trafficking wife to Mali


Operatives of the Nigeria police Command in Ogun State have arrested for allegedly selling his two year-old son at the rate of N600, 000 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira) after trafficking his wife to Bamako in Mali for prostitution.

The Command’s spokesman. DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi in a Press statement on Thursday, stated that the 36-year-old man, Kingsley Essien, was arrested by the police, following the report lodged at Agbara divisional headquarters by the his wife, Bright Essien.

He said the told the police that her husband in October 2021, allegedly lured her that he had secured a job for her in Bamako Mali where he claimed to have assisted several economic migrants from Nigeria.

Bright Essien, also alleged she didn’t suspect any foul play initially until she got to Mali before she discover that she has been sold to human traffickers’ cartel headed by a woman at the rate of N1.4 million (One Million Four Hundred Thousand Naira), according to DSP Oyeyemi.

The police spokesman noted that while in Mali, she was forced into prostitution, but later find her way to Nigeria Embassy in Bamako where she was assisted back to Nigeria.

“On getting to Nigeria, she discovered that her two years old son in care of her husband is no where to be found.

“Upon the report, the DPO Agbara division, SP Abiodun Salau detailed his detectives to go after the suspect, and he was eventually arrested.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime, he confessed further that he sold the two years old son to somebody at the rate of six Hundred Thousand Naira”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered police operatives to track down the culprit who stole the child whose whereabouts is unknown.

He also ordered the transfer of the suspect to anti human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
