Tambuwal urges calm over alleged murder on ‘seat of Caliphate’

The governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has ordered security agencies to investigate the alleged murder of a female student simply identified as Deborah in the State.

The student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in‪ Sokoto‬ State was burnt alive on Thursday by beaten to pulp after she was accused of insulting Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) on a WhatsApp group.

Some young men were seen hurling stones at the victim in a grisly footage of the bestial act which was shared on social media, amidst outage.

Her attackers gathered tyres around her before she was set ablaze after the victim fell to the ground unconsciously.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, the State Commissioner of Information, Isa Bajini Galadanchi, said the Governor has ordered the shutting down of the school.

He said Governor Tambuwal equally directed the State Ministry of Higher Education and relevant security agencies to investigate the alleged crime.

According to Galadanchi, “The Governor has called on the people of the state to remain calm and maintain peace as the government would take appropriate actions on the findings of the investigation,” Bajini said.

It was learnt that parents of the College students have besieged the school which has been taken over by armed security personnel to remove their Children.
