Jonathan makes U-turn, rejects APC presidential form

Nigeria former President, Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the presidential form of the All Progressives Congress (APC), weeks after a group stormed his Abuja residence, urging him to contest the 2023 election.

He took the decision a few hours after accepting the N100 million Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms were purchased for him on Monday by a coalition of northern group, amidst rumours that Jonathan has secretly obtained his membership card from the ruling party in Nigeria.

The youths had converged on the International Conference Centre in Abuja informed journalists that it was for Jonathan who has neither declared for the APC nor his intention to contest the election.

Apparently peeved by the outrage expressed by Nigerians that greeted Jonathan’s move, Jonathan in a Press statement endorsed by his Media aide, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze on Monday night, announced that the former President has rejected the offer after his photographs with the presidential forms, appeared on social media.

Part if the Press statement read, “We wish to categorically state that Dr. Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorize it.
We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and will not enter through the back door.

“While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians, for Dr. Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 Presidential election, we wish to state, that he has not in anyway, committed himself to this request”, according to Jonathan.

At best, if elected as President again, Jonathan who governed Nigeria on the platform of Peoples Democratic party (PDP) and thereafter conceded defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, can only serve for one term of four-year tenure in Nigeria’s constitution.
