Security operatives led by the Nigeria Police have prevented hoodlums from invading the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) annex in Makurdi, Benue State Capital.
But for the prompt intervention of the Federal Fire fighters Service, the complex was gutted by fire on Thursday morning, helped to out out the the fire, which began from the power outage at a section of the Bank around 7am.
Reports said the firemen were alerted by security men on duty, according to a confidential source.
According to the source, “The fire started from the power house and the the security quickly called the fire fighters who came and put it off, it does not escalate to the main building”, which is suspected to have been spurred by power surge.
Newsmen were denied access into the facility by security personnel, which have condoned off the area.
It was learnt that roads leading to the CBN area have been convulsed in a traffic snarl for hours while staff of the Bank were spotted around the complex.
Official statement from the Nigeria police Command in Benue State, is being awaited as at the time of filing this report.
