Mr. Nyesom Wike, Rivers State governor has berated the federal government over the state pardon he granted to a former Governor of Plateau, Joshua Dariye, and his Taraba State counterpart, Jolly Nyame.
Recall that the two former Governors who had convicted for corruption by the courts were granted state pardon at the Council of State meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The visibly angry Wike made the assertion while addressing Peoples Democratic party (PDP) delegates in Niger on Saturday, ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.
The PDP Presidential aspirant described the action of the federal government as a setback to anti-corruption war and the judiciary.
Wike also alleged that the pardon was stage managed by Nigeria ruling party as a decoy for forthcoming general elections.
He also alleged that the international Community may no longer have respect for a president for taking the judiciary for a joke.
Wike further stated that Nigeria needs a leader who is sincere and bold to take the nation out of its current economic morass.
He said, “I want to tell you that this government is very deceptive and they have deceived us enough.
“You have big big people, you jail them after all the court proceedings and waste of money, then you ridicule the judiciary by granting them pardon.
“”How will the international community look at us with these type of things we do. Look at the amount spent in the prosecutions and you wake up one morning and messed it up all because of politics.
“He obviously wants them to help him during the elections, he wants Dariye to help with Plateau while Nyame will work for Taraba.”
“I will agree on consensus if it is based on equity, justice and fairness because as it is, those who are talking about consensus are not sincere and there is nothing like consensus in our constitution.
“Whoever emerges as the flagbearer, I will do whatever I can to ensure that the PDP wins the election”, he stressed.
