The major fire disaster was averted on Friday night in the Faculty of Arts, University of Benin (UNIBEN) Edo State, five months after a similar fire incident occurred at the Dean’s office in the same Faculty.

The timely intervention by the UNIBEN Fire Service Department and Security personnel led by the acting Chief Security officer (CSO), as well as other concerned members of the University Community on Ugbowo Campus, averted the disaster.

The fire incident, broke out at about 10p.m, Friday, occurred at the Department of Linguistics and affected two offices, according to reports.

An unidentified man believed to be a staff of the University can be heard in a 16 seconds footage on the inferno, saying, “there is fire in the Facility of Arts, in social Sciences”.

“We have just put out the fire now. The fire fighters are trying to put out the light”, he said.

Dr. (Mrs) Benedicta Ehanire, the University Public Relations officer (PRO) confirmed the incident.
