A driver who attempted to behead an official of Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) with a machete has been arrested.
The unnamed official got a close shave with death while enforcing the arrest of driver who was accused of violating traffic rules on Tuesday morning at Uwasota junction by Ugbowo-Lagos road in Benin.
Trouble started after the official confronted the angry driver who suddenly brought out a sharp machete attempted to attack him with after a heated argument.
The prompt intervention of other commuters, overpowered the driver and collected the machete from him while the official scampered for safety.
Braved youths in the locality quickly mobilized to the scene and caught the driver before the arrival of armed policemen attached to Ugbowo Division stormed the scene and took him away.
It was further learnt that the vehicle was also impounded by the security agents.
A witness who spoke with our Correspondent in Benin said, “we mobilized to the area to ensure that he (the driver) does not escape.
“We were able to hold the man and took the cutlass from him. I am sure EDSTMA Management is already aware”, he said.
Investigation revealed that traffic on the convulsed for about an hour minutes while other road users including pedestrians were forced to trek a distance to continue their journey.
Contacted, the spokesman of the Nigeria police Command in Edo State, SP. Kotongs Bello, promised to get details of the incident from Ugbowo Divisional Police officer and provide details.
“I have to find out from the DPO and get back to you”, he said.
