Celestial church pastor allegedly shoot teenage girl in Ogun

A pastor in charge of the Celestial Church of Christ, Jesu Yan Parish, Olambe junction Akute, Ogun State, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a teenage girl with a prohibited firearm.

Pastor Peter Ayodele Omope, was arrested by the Nigeria police operatives in Ogun State, following a distress call received from one Deji Olaketan who informed the police at Ajuwon divisional headquarters that, the suspect and one 18-year-old Kemi Johnson took their madam whom they are working with as driver and maid respectively to the airport to board plane.

A statement by the Command’s Public Rations officer (PRO). DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Saturday, alleged that after dropping the madam, they allegedly took the vehicle to the house of their boss relation as directed.

He said “but on their way home, they were informed that the Oro sacrifice was ongoing at Olambe area which made it impossible for them to pass through the area”.

Consequently, “they then saw a Celestial church where vigil was ongoing and decided to join them since it was already late in the night”, according to Oyeyemi.

The police PRO, “while they were at the entrance of the church, the suspect who happened to be the shepherd in- charge came out with a pump action rifle and before they could utter any explanation, he shot Kemi Johnson on the leg.

“Upon the distress call, the DPO Ajuwon division SP Andrew Akinseye quickly mobilized his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

“The victim was quickly rushed to Ifako Ijaye general hospital, from where she was referred to Lagos university teaching hospital and finally to Orthopedics Hospital Igbobi Lagos.

“The prohibited firearm (pump action rifle) and five live cartridges had been recovered from the suspect”, Oyeyemi said.

Part of the police statement read: “The suspect, Pastor Peter Ayodele Omope was arrested following a distress call received from one Deji Olaketan who informed the police at Ajuwon divisional headquarters that, he and one 18-year-old Kemi Johnson took their madam whom they are working with as driver and housemaid respectively to the airport to board plane, after dropping the madam, they took the vehicle to the house of their boss relation as directed.

In the meantime, the Commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation according to the police PRO.
