Fire service laments shortage of trucks in Edo, responds to 77 calls

The federal Fire Service says it responded to 77 distressed calls across Edo State within the past three months.

But it lamented the shortage of fire fighting trucks in the State in order to complement the existing two fire trucks of the federal fire service in the State.

Head, Prevention Federal Fire Service, Edo State Command, DSP, Iyimbor Paul made the remark while speaking on Independent television radio programme monitored in Benin”.

He tasked the State government, Local Government and Corporate Organizations operating in the State to procure additional fire trucks towards mitigating fire disasters in distant locations outside Benin.

“As at November 7, 2021 and now, we have responded to 77 fire calls in Edo State”, according to Iyimbor.

“We currently have two fire trucks in Edo State, which is not enough especially when there is a fire outbreak in distant locations…Fire does not give notice.

“Since our presence in Edo, Abuja and 35 other States in Nigeria, we have never had it so good. We are giving kudos to President Muhammadu Buhari for his intervention in the Service. Before he came, the Service did not have enough vehicles”, Iyimbor said.

Iyimbor, commended the efforts of other sister Fire Service in the State for their humanitarian services and appealed to Local Government Councils in the State.

The State Head, Prevention Federal Fire Service also gave tips on fire prevention and fire fighting especially at fuel dump sites, petrol stations and gas plants.

Iyimbor further advised residents of the State to either dial 112 toll-free or call 08108378588 help lines during fire outbreak for support.

According to him, ” we are not everywhere, that is why our advocacy is on fire prevention”.

The federal fire Service official stated that places such as worship Centres, markets, Churches, Mosques and Petrol stations, gas plants need fire blanket and regular water supply — 02.

He further stated that most Petrol stations in the State do not have fire dry hydrant while a few of them have fire suppressors, fire alarms, fire dry hydrant and fire detective.
