AFCON: Super Eagles beat Sudan, qualify for knockout stage


The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated the Falcons of Sudan 3-1 to progress into the round of 16 in the ongoing AFCON in Cameroon.

Samuel Chukwueze opened the score sheet for the Eagles pass inside the box from Moses Simon, and he beat the goalkeeper barely three minutes into the first half of the match.

Wilfred Ndidi took advantage of a powerful cross inside the box but he only hit the crossbar with a fine header after 20 minutes of play on Saturday evening.

PM reports that a long pass into the box on 36th minute by Taiwo Awoniyi, who looked up and slammed a terrific shot past the keeper but onto the right post.

Five minutes later, Joe Aribo met a cross in the box and found some space for a shot. He produced an inaccurate effort that went wide of the right post.

Awoniyi increased Nigeria’s goal tally to 2-0 on 45 minutes when he beat the goalkeeper and headed the ball inside the left post.

Momentarily, Moses Simon scored Nigeria’s third goal before Sudan pulled one back from the penalty spot.

The Super Eagles thereafter conceded a penalty after Walieldin Khidir ran up to the ball, stopped and waited for Maduka Okoye to move that gave Sudan their only goal in the match.
