Family members and sympathizers have besieged collapsed church building housing Salvation Ministry in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State in search of worshippers.

An unspecified number of worshippers are believed to have been trapped in the rubbles after the building collapsed occurred at about 5:55pm on Tuesday during a service.

Spokesman of the Nigeria police, Delta State Command, Bright Edafe confirmed the incident.

He however did not give casualty figure in the building which was being used for the first time. But unconfirmed reports say scores of worshippers have feared dead.

The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ononye Mordi and the Secretary to the State Government, Patrick Ukah.

Also, Red Cross team and security personnel are already at the site for rescue operation, amid tension.
