Governor Godwin Obaseki’s Christmas package to the youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress in the State, Tony ‘Kabaka’ Adun has set social media buzzing after the photographs of the visit emerged on the platforms.

The youth Leader, was at the Government House, Benin City on Monday evening, to receive gift items to celebrate the festivities with his family, following the Governor’s invitation.

Mr. Osaigbovo Iyoha, the Chief to the Governor delivered the package including bags of rice, a cow to Kabaka on behalf of the State government.

According to the Governor, “In the mood of Christmas and reconciliation, this cow and bags of rice are for you and your family to celebrate Christmas. We are brothers and a family; irrespective of events of the past, we are still friends”.

Responding, Kabaka who became tearful during a brief remark, thanked Governor Obaseki for his kind gesture and forgiving spirit.

He said: “Your Excellency, may God bless you for these gifts. I thank you for having mercy on me. I never expected this from you; I am happy with what you have done for me today.

The APC Youth Leader disclosed that criticism from the opposition party was aimed at putting the government on its toes to deliver quality projects to the people of the State.

“The governor is my brother and this kind gesture of Christmas gift from him shows that politics is not a do or die affair; this move is encouraging, as I am learning from him”, he said.

Expectedly, some Nigerians on social media, including the Governor’s fans across party lines, commended the Governor’s act of philanthropy, while a few others considered the move as face-saving measure.

Recently, the APC youth leader made a public apology to the Governor a few days ago over his disparaging comments on Obaseki over the demolition of his multimillion hotel, ‘Latifa hotel’ by the Government in the build up to September 19, 2020.

Consequently, Kabaka dragged the Government and Governor to court, demanding for compensation from the Government which claimed that the property was illegal structure.

But the politician however made a U-turn after a Benin High court ordered the State government to rebuild his hotel.
