Troops of the 82 Division Nigerian army in conjunction with other security agencies have arrested a suspected leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Godwin Nnamdi.
Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier-Gen. Onyema Nwacgukwu in a statement said the suspect was arrested on December 25, 2021 (Christmas Day) during joint clearance operations at a camp believed to be the fortress of IPOB/ESN elements at Akpowfu Forest in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the State.
The statement explained that “troops engaged the dissidents in a fire fight compelling them to take to their heels, leading to the arrest of their leader during the clearance operation”.
“Troops recovered various items including one AK 47 rifle, one magazine containing 21 rounds of 7. 62 mm Special, one handset amongst others”, according to Nwachukwu.
The statement also conveyed the goodwill message of “The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya to troops for the successes recorded thus far”.
He also charged troops “to comb and clear all suspected hideouts of criminal elements in their Area of Responsibility”
