Willie Obiano, the Governor of Anambra State on Wednesday, rejected claim by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he has been placed on watchlist.
The Commission had asked Nigerian Immigration Service to inform it whenever Obiano who currently enjoy immunity from arrest and prosecution as provided in Section 308 of Nigeria’s Constitution, is travelling abroad.
The anti-graft agency in the letter to Immigration, said it should be informed whenever the governor is travelling out of the Country through any of the international airports, as well as other points of entry and exit.
But Mr. C. Don Adinuba, the State Commissioner for information and public enlightenment, described the move as ridiculous.
He told Daily Trust in a telephone interview that, “It is ridiculous for such to happen.
“It is crazy for anybody to say the governor is placed on travel watchlist , when he is already out of the Country. Any person who originated the story was out to serve mischievous intention”, he said.
Obiano who is billed to handover power to winner of Anambra State governorship election on November 6, 2021, flew to the US after victory of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Candidate and the Governor-elect, Chukwuma Charles.
Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman of the EFCC, is yet to comment on the letter the Commission wrote to Immigration over Obiano, according to the paper.
