The Nigeria police says four mourners were killed when gunmen invaded and attacked Imande Abur Village, Mbategh Ward of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
DSP Catherine Anene, the spokesperson of Benue State police Command in a statement, said four out of the five persons who were injured in Saturday night, and admitted to hospital for medical attention, however lost their lives while receiving treatment.
She said the gunmen numbering about three, shot sporadically at mourners who were assembled at a funeral ceremony and took to their heels on sighting the police which responded swiftly.
Anene, assured that justice will be served to the families of victims, stressing that detectives are already on the trail of identified suspects.
The statement recalled that: “On the 13th November, 2021 at about 0300hrs information was received that a group of gunmen numbering three (3) and identified by eye witnesses to be known persons within Sankara area invaded Imande Abur Village, Mbategh Council ward and shot sporadically at mourners who were assembled at a funeral Ceremony.
“Five persons sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment but unfortunately four of them lost their lives while receiving treatment”, according to the police.
The statement said the State police Command commiserate with families of the victims and assure them that justice will definitely be served as detectives are already on the trail of identified suspects.
