Coalition echoes inauguration of Edo Assembly members-elect

The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has called on Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to inaugurate 12 house of Assembly members-elect, ahead of 2023 general elections.

Dr. Samson Isibor, the Chairman of CRPP, Edo State Chapter who made the request at the at the Weekend in Benin City where award of excellence were conferred on some distinguished Nigerians, however brushed aside several interpretations and claims that it had laid to the protracted issue.

The members-elect who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress include Mr. Vincent Uwadiae, Ovia North-East II; Ugiagbe Dumez, Ovia North-East I; Washington Osifo, Uhunmwode; Victor Edoror, Esan Central; Kingsley Ugabi, Etsako East and Michael Ohio-Ezomo, Owan West.

Others are Sunday Aghedo, Ovia South-West; Chris Okaeben, Oredo West; Crosby Eribo, Egor; Aliyu Oshiomhole, Etsako West II; Oshomah Ahmed, Etsako Central and Ganiyu Audu, Etsako West I.

They were absent when the 7th Assembly was inaugurated on June 17, 2019, following a proclamation letter that was issued by Governor Obaseki which had been dogged in controversy while two others — Mr. Uyi Ekhosuehi and Mr. Eric Okaka representing Oredo East and Owan East Constituency for failing to meet the mandatory 180 sitting days as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended), according to the former Speaker of the house, Hon. Frank Okiye.

According to the CRPP Chairman, “We also call on the Edo State Governor as a matter of oneness to reconsider and constitute the full house of 24-member Assembly as the father to all”.

He also charged the State Chapter of the “Peoples Democratic party, PDP to settle their internal matters peacefully to allow the Governor move the State to the next level”.

Isibor said, “Political parties are partner in progress, to the government in powerful, we criticise and proved solutions where necessary, we also commend and applaud the government whenever they do something worthwhile”.

Recall that after the apex court verdict months ago, the Candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in a congratulations letter, which was rejected by Governor, appealed to Mr. Obaseki who was PDP Candidate in the election, to reinstate some elected Chairmen Local Government Councils in the State and implored him to swear the ‘absentee house of Assembly members-elect’.
