The Nigerian army has arrested and detained a soldier who reportedly assaulted a female nurse to the extent of breaking one of her legs over an argument after he took his pregnant wife to the hospital for delivery.
The spokesman of the 22 Brigade Armoured Nigeria Army Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, St. Sgt Wasiri who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust at the weekend, said the Officer was detained for further interrogation on the alleged crime.
Sources told the paper that trouble started when the nurse asked them to buy delivery packs upon admitting the soldier’s wife into the labour room.
The soldier rejected the demand for the delivery packs and engaged in a heated arguments with the nurse over the alleged failure of the Kwara State government to provided such items for pregnant women that might have come for their delivery at the hospital.
The development led to the assault by the unnamed soldier, according to the paper, leading to the admission of the nurse who is currently receiving medical attention at the hospital.
“But the nurse told the soldier that he misconstrued the information, therefore, he needed to provide the delivery packs for his wife to assist her to make use of the delivery packs for his wife’s delivery at the labour room”, according to a source.
“But, the statement got the soldier angry and beat the nurse to the extent that one of her legs was broken”, another source added.
