Worshippers and guests at the Holy Aruosa Cathedral in Benin City could not hold back their joy on Sunday afternoon when the Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, donated the sum of N5m (Five Million Naira) to the church.

The Royal father who ascended the throne of his forebears on October 20, 2016, made the donation during his 5th Coronation Anniversary Thanksgiving.

Aside from the N5m assist the oldest church in West Africa church — founded in 1849 by Oba Esigie of blessed memory, the monarch also donated N500, 000.00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) to Children in the church with display of Benin royalty and splendor.

Clad in a oxblood red regalia with a pair of glasses with brown pair of shows, traditional royal beads and a red cap, Oba Ewuare, was in a calm mood. In addition, the rich Benin cultural symbolism was reenacted at the Ceremony.

During the Sunday service, the royal father was received by the presiding Priest (Ohen-Osa) of the church on Akpakpava road in Benin City, Edo State Capital, Igbinoghodua Edebiri top palace functionaries and retinue of Chiefs, Dukes and members of the Benin Royal family at the Thanksgiving service which concluded this year’s Coronation anniversary rites
at the church where worship is conducted in Edo Language.

In a homily, the presiding Priest of Holy Aruosa (Benin National Church), Ohen-Osa Edebiri who described contentment as a rare virtues that attracts earthly and heavenly blessings from God Almighty, charged worshipers to be contented and attributed some crimes in society to deviation from family values.

There was heavy security presence at the church premises, which was sanctified and blessed.

Holy Aruosa church choir rendered melodious ongs prayers to God Almighty and the ancestors while prayers for divine guidance and peaceful reign in the years ahead were also said.

Recall that the monarch who is the spiritual head of the church had in a statement through Mr. Frank Irabor, Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council, BTC, scaled back the bash of his 5th Coronation Anniversary in honour of his bosom friend, Capt. Idahosa Okunbo, fondly called ‘Capt. Hosa’ who transited a few months ago.
