Chief Francis Inegbeneki, the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo Central Senatorial district, has kicked against a purported consensus arrangement for elective Chairmanship position of the party in Edo State.
Inegbeneki made the assertion in a Press release in Benin City where he denied dropping his ambition to vie for the chairmanship seat of the party in October 2021.
He pledged his loyalty to national leadership of APC led by Mai Bala-Buni and Yobe State governor, and adhere strictly to the Congress guidelines released by the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
But he warned that any undemocratic decision and undermine a free and credible State Congress as stipulated by APC Constitution, could lead the collapse of the main opposition party in Edo State.
“We are by this medium appealing to the leadership of our party and the national chairman of CECPC, HE Mai Mala Buni to intervene and stop our party in Edo State from imminent political annihilation”, he said.

The aspirant also disassociated himself and his supporters from any consensus arrangement at a meeting, and assured of plans to reactivate the winning streak of Edo APC if given the opportunity to lead the party.
“There is a rumour going round that I have stepped down or asked to step down. I am here to set the record straight and therefore I wish to state emphatically that I am still in the race.
“It’s true that there was a kangaroo meeting held few hours ago where it was resolved that the Edo APC State Congress will not hold as scheduled but rather a process that is alien to the ethos and principles of democracy will be adopted, whereby an incompetent State executive will be handpicked and imposed on the party”, he said.
