‘Torture videos’ of students’ tear Kwara Islamic school apart

A disturbing trending video of alleged torture of ‘Madrasah Misbaudeen al Islamiy Arabic school’, Ganmo in Kwara State, despite the abolition of ‘corporal punishment’ in Nigerian schools, has sparked social outrage.

Madrasah, is the Arabic word for any type of educational institution, secular or religious (of any religion), whether for elementary instruction or higher learning, according to Wikipedia.

Our Correspondent reports that the outrage brought into the public glare after a management Staff of the school, reportedly directed four Islamic teachers in the school in Yoruba Language to flog a female Secondary school student with whips under his supervision as gleaned from the video clip, shared on Facebook by Fresh Insight online television on Sunday morning (West African time).

The female student (name withheld), spotted in the school’s uniform, was reported to have violated the regulations of the school for attending a party a few days ago.

Other students, pupils and bystanders around the school’s premises, watched helplessly as the four male Arabic teachers descended on the student who did not resist her teachers, was on her kneels in the heat of the rage.

Also, some persons suspected to be students of the school, but their shirts were stripped off, can be seen in another video displaying the scares reportedly inflicted on their bodies by their teachers in another footage of alleged torture on social media Network.

Neither the parents of the students, management of the school nor the Kwara State government has reacted to the alleged assault.

But Nigerians have condemned the act, describing it as barbaric and inhuman and called on authorities concern to investigate and prosecute the alleged culprits.

Amb. Abdullahi Abdulazeez Alannex described the alleged violation of the the students human right as “barbaric and unacceptable”.

“If any useless Alfa try such with my child, I won’t take it easy with him. This is barbaric”, he said.

While Mr. Aliu Mudathir and Akanfe Ayodeji, called for the arrest and prosecution of the teachers, Dayo AKiyesola, said the Madrasah Misbaudeen al Islamiy Arabic school, Ganmo in Kwara State where the incident occurred, should be shutdown.

According to AKiyesola, ” That Madarasa school should be shutdown. This is barbarism. This is one of the reasons why most people of our generation do not learn Arabic Language.

“This is so bad, no matter what her offence is, she does not deserve to be punish and recorded at the same time” he said.

AKiyesola also appealed to concerned authorities including the Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, and Civic groups to intervene and ensure that the victims of assault get justice and the culprits are made to answer for their alleged crimes.

Also speaking, Mr. Yusuf Irebokale Salman who condemned the alleged assault, described the action of the teachers and school authorities as a “dent on Islam”. Because she attended a party. She should have been suspended instead of this.

On his part, Afolabi Ridwan said, the management of the Madrasa should be questioned for this useless indignation, alleging that the school authorities have ” different orientation about these horrible things”, while Asiwaju Wasiu Kawo, said, ” demoralizing herself esteem is bad. There are many ways to correct someone. However, this is not one of them”, Asiwaju lamented.
