Some commercial bus drivers shuttling New Benin and Upper Mission road in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State got the headmaster’s strokes from Governor Obaseki’s convoy on Tuesday.
Two of the drivers, according a dependable source who was a commanding figure on the Governor’s entourage, were reportedly flogged by his security aides.
It was learnt that the traffic offenders were accused of blocking the Governor who was moving at a snail speed in his usual way without blaring the siren.
The incident, which occurred near the crowded New Benin market in Oredo Local Government Area of the State, few meters away from Samuel Ogbemudia College formerly known as ‘New Era College’, caused pandemonium.
The Governor, however, continued his journey after braving through the traffic jam and thereafter unveiled 1000 newly trained Edo Supporting Teachers To Achieve Results (EdoSTAR) teaching fellows as part of activities to mark the 2021 international Teacher’s Day in the State.
According to the source, “Those (bus drivers) who were picking and dropping passengers on the road never knew that it was Obaseki that was coming, they became confused.
“Suddenly when some security aides brought out whips and began to flog them. Nobody told them to behave and quickly removed their vehicles from the road.
“There was panic everywhere. The Governor did not come out of his vehicle”, the source added.
