The Peoples Democratic party, PDP, Edo State Chapter has implored its members and supporters to team up with governor Godwin Obaseki by promoting democratic values.
It also urge them to highlight the achievements of the State government and assist PDP government in fulfilling his promises captured in its ‘Making Edo Great Again’, MEGA agenda to Edo people before the State governorship election last year.
Dr Tony Aziegbemi, State Chairman of PDP who made the submission in a statement from Mr. Chris Nehikhare, PDP State Publicity Secretary, also charged its members to shun distraction and be focus, adding that the party is not oblivious of the internal challenges affecting the plaguing the party. According to him, steps have been taken to resolve the issues.
Aziegbemi further explained that the victory of the PDP and its Candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki with his deputy, Mr. Philip Shaibu, in the September. 19, 2021 governorship poll, comes with responsibility, sacrifice and a great deal of patience from Edo people and members the party.
He stated that Governor Obaseki’s sectoral and infrastructural reforms including the EDOBEST Education, job creation, Health, State Civil Service and sports are all something to cheer and talk about.
“We must highlight and boastfully report the successes of our Governor and Government. Issues of interest to a larger proportion of our people, like the employment schemes going on, revamping and resetting of the state civil service, the prompt and uninterrupted payments of salaries and pensions, the Gelegele seaport construction, numerous roads’ construction, Ambrose Alli University, AAU resetting, the COVID-19 pandemic successes recorded.
“The EdoBest programme, the successful hosting of the National Sports Festival that has been described as the most successful ever and of course the relatively peaceful and secure state Edo has become. These are the things Edo people are interested in. These are some of the reasons we are in government”.
“Frankly speaking, the size of our victory in the last governorship election imposes a very special responsibility on us; To be a Government of high ideals and hard choices. Not popular for one time but remembered for all times. Not just a better government than previous, but one of the great, radical, reforming Governments of our history. To build an Edo, not for a few, but for all the people. And it will require Resetting. Hard choices. I know our people can make them if we show how and why”, according to the statement.
In addition, the PDP said, “it concedes that challenges would arise after Governor Obaseki emerged as the gubernatorial Candidate in the election and as a result ruling party has put various Committees and sub-committees to resolve these issues and proffer workable and acceptable solutions”.
