A serving female National Youth Service Corps member in Edo State died on Wednesday in a road accident that occurred near Ogba river, Oko on the Airport road, Benin City, leaving an unidentified woman wounded.
The deceased simply identified as Abidemi, was allegedly knocked down when a tipping truck ladened with sand, rammed into a Commercial motorcycle she boarded to undisclosed location at about 12:30 p.m.
It was gathered that the truck conveying sand, was on speed, had a break failure and rammed into a Lexus sport Utility vehicle, SUV, which hit the Abidemi who died immediately.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, SP Kontongs Bello, who confirmed that accident, said tragedy occurred at about 12:30 pm.
He said, “a tipper carrying sand failed brake at Ogba bridge and ran into a Lexus Jeep and a motorbike”.
“The motorbike was conveying one Mrs. Maria who was badly injured and now receiving treatment at the Central Hospital, Benin and a Youth Corp member, Abidemi, who is believed to be the sister of Maria, died at the spot.
Meanwhile, the state Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Henry Benamaisia, promised to get back to the reporter.
