Betsy Obaseki backs campaign on safe sports, end to gender-violence

The Edo State government has given her support to promote safe sport campaign against gender-violence at the private sector-driven ‘Betsy Obaseki football tournament’.

Briefing newsmen on Monday at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin, the State deputy governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, said the First Lady’s pet project scheduled to begin on Saturday September 27 to October 4 2021.

“Tax payers money will not be involved in this tournament, it is being organised under Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements.

“We are kick starting a new era where private sector will be driving sport in Edo, We have built facilities and created the enabling environment.

“It is now time for the private sector to take advantage of the facilities to drive sport in the state,” he said.

The deputy governor who inspected the facilities ahead of the tournament, stated that the state was set for the hosting of the Football tournament in September 27, 2021.

One of the Coordinators of the tournament and former FA Chairman, Mr Frank Ilaboya, explained that the tournament would be held across four stadia.

He listed the venues as Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, UNIBEN sports Complex, Western Boys Sports Complex, and the School of Health technology sports Complex all in Benin.
