Youth leader uplifts 2000 widows, Children, accuses Obaseki of insensitivity

Godsent Foundation has offered lifeline to over 2000 widows, Children and the elderly in Edo State in the past 10 years, with a call on Citizens to defend their human rights.

President of Foundation, Ambassador Dion Osagie said this at the 10th Anniversary of the Foundation at the Weekend in Benin City, the State Capital.

He accused the State governor, Godwin Obaseki of holding a record of incompetence and broken promises which have become a turn-off for the electorate who bear the yoke of poverty raising from unpopular policies.

He said Edo State under governor Obaseki’s watch, is savaged and nothing seems to be working arising from the increase in Child labour, insecurity and economic hardship across State.

“Edo State is savaged. Nothing is working. The Governor of Edo State has totally failed his people. Nothing is working. Look at the City Centre at the King square. By 7p.m everybody is running home. There is no job, no project. One year after Governor Godwin Obaseki re-election, there is no security, no cabinet or elected Local Government Chairmen in Edo State.

“Edo State is currently in the hands of the person who do not have the capacity to lift our people from poverty”, Osagie said.

He decried poor implementation of Edo State Child Rights Law on paper, insisting that “There is no excuse for young Children in our Communities to be in the Street hawking sachet water when they are supposed to be in school.

“There is a constitutional right for Child protection. It is in the laws of Edo State. But how well has the government implemented that law?.

“I appreciate all Edo people. Do not give up. Speak up and defend your rights for the benefits of our Children and their future. We cannot see what is wrong and keep quiet. As a matter of fact, the Governor is not our superior, but a servant to people.

Giving further insight into his philanthropist gesture, Osagie said, passion has been the driving force of this Foundation which intend to debut in other States of the federation within the next 10 years.

The philanthropist said, “We have been able to achieve free education and currently working on our free healthcare. We also have soccer challenge and feeding programme.

“Since we started this work, we have not received a dime from the government or from any politician. Good hearted people have being supporting us.

“On the average, Godsent Foundation spends N5m monthly. In 2021, we have so far spend about N40m in supporting our people”, he stressed.

Our Correspondent reports that scores of senior Citizens including women and Children have also being placed on daily free launch by the Foundation.

This dramatic change introduced by the 10-year-old interventionist NGO, has made the corporate office of the Organization near the King Square in Benin City, a Mecca of sorts and a shelter to some abandoned and homeless Children.
