President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Senator Ifeanyi Ararume as the pioneer Chairman of NNPC Limited Board.
Ararume is the Senator representing Imo North Senatorial district in the 9th national Assembly and a member of the All Progressives Congress APC.
Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, conveyed president Muhammadu Buhari directive in a press statement on Sunday, in line with the relevant provisions of the Constitution.
Buhari also named Margaret Chuba Okadigbo, wife of Nigeria former Senate president, Chuba Okadigbo, now deceased from South East into the NNPC Limited under the headship of the Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Mele Kyari who is also the Chief Executive Officer and Umar Ajiya as the Chief Financial Officer of the Board.
Others appointed by the president include; “Tajudeen Umar (North East), Lami Ahmed (North Central), Mohammed Lawal (North West), Constance Harry Marshal also from the South South, and Pius Akinyelure (South West)”.
In line with the powers vested on the president in Section 53(1) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, according Adesina, requires the Minister of Petroleum Resources to cause for the incorporation of the NNPC Limited within six months of commencement of the Act in consultation with the Minister of Finance on the nominal shares of the Company.
According to the statement, “The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr Mele Kolo Kyari, has, therefore, been directed to take necessary steps to ensure that the incorporation of the NNPC Limited is consistent with the provisions of the PIA 2021.
“Also, by the power vested in him under Section 59(2) of the PIA 2021, President Buhari has approved the appointment of the Board and Management of the NNPC Limited, with effect from the date of incorporation of the Company.”
The president reserved the position of the Minister of Petroleum Resources to himself, according to the statement.
