Unvaccinated Edo workers, journalists, others barred from govt house, facilities

The Edo State government is set to begin enforcement of restrictions on large public gatherings, Government House for persons without evidence of COVID-19 vaccination with government offices across the State, citing high percentage increase in mortality State.

Edo State government workers, journalists and other professional groups are included in the health guidelines, which begins from Wednesday September 15, 2021.

Recall that a High court in Port Harcourt, River State in a ruling barred governor Godwin Obaseki and five others from enforcing Covid-19 vaccination.

The ruling was sequel to a suit brought in by one Charles Osaretin through his Counsel, Echezona Etiaba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had filed a suit marked FHC/PH/FHR/266/2021 in August this year.

On Tuesday, the Coordinator, Edo State Vigilante Network, Mr. Haruna Yusuf said, 20 trained special forces will be deployed to enforce compliance which across the State in phases towards preventing the spread of the pandemic.

He disclosed this during an update of Covid-19 pandemic in the State in Benin City where he maintained that government will not residents of the State to take the vaccines.

He was however silent if security personnel working in the public facilities will also be affected in the exercise which will be carried out in phases.

“Haven observed the high percentage in increase in mortality rate, the Governor had emphasized that from the second week of September 2021, government is going to embark on the enforcement of no vaccination card, no access to public places. This is to prevent the spread of this virus.

“As we all know that government has a responsibility of protecting lives and properties. In view of this, we have trained 20 special team spread across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State. We will commence this enforcement with effect from 15th September 2021.

“As from tomorrow (Wednesday), all the Government facilities, Government House, 18 Local Government Areas and the Secretariat Buildings will be manned by special forces who will be scanning and confirming the authenticity of these cards”, he said.

Earlier in a remark, the State team lead on COVID-19 Dr. Osagie Ebomwonyi said three new Covid-19 related deaths were recorded across the State since the past 24 hours.

He revealed that the victims were unvaccinated and had underlying ailments.
