Tension in Edo as girlfriend dies in traditional ruler’s car


A dead side cheek discovered inside a metallic Lexus Spot Utility Vehicle, SUV belonging to HRH Friday Iguodala Ogieriakhi, the Duke (Enogie) of Uroho Village in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, has heightened tension in Benin City.

The victim was identified as Faith Aigbe was allegedly brought into Edo Specialist hospital premises in Benin City by an unidentified person with the vehicle on Wednesday, and thereafter abandoned to fate.

It was gathered that the body of 27-year-old woman was found by her close relatives, wept uncontrollably and raised the alarm that caught the attention of the hospital Management and sympathisers who broke the tented car glasses in order to identify her body on Thursday morning.

Two family members of the deceased, Mrs Janet Asemota and Mercy Eddy, alleged that the victim, Faith was brought to the health facility by the traditional ruler.

It was further learnt that the mother of the victim, had warned her daughter from hanging out with the Duke before the tragedy which caused a traffic snarl on Sapele road and adjourning street, struck.

When our Correspondent visited Edo Specialist hospital on Thursday, the mother of the deceased (Faith), who soliloquize in anger in Edo Language, “What will I tell the world killed my daughter”.

Continuing, the fat dark in complexion woman who demanded for justice, said, “I warned faith to stop hanging out with Enogie, but she will not listen”.

Edo Specialist hospital source hinted the traditional ruler might have beat security check at the hospital.

“From our preliminary investigation, somebody drove the car into the premises yesterday (Wednesday) and probably called her relatives to come to hospital, realising that she was dead.

“I can tell you that no medical doctor certified her dead at the hospital and escaped.

“Somebody from hospital called the traditional ruler, and he said that he is not in Nigeria.

“It was not the traditional ruler that brought the car to the hospital”, he said in anguish.

Police personnel from Aideyan Division have towed the vehicle with the body for investigation on the deceased.

Spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, SP Kotongs Bello who confirmed the report, promised to provide details in response to the inquiry by our Correspondent on Thursday evening.

Our Correspondent could not immediately verify if the victim was violated.

But Oba of Benin palace sources said the accused traditional ruler is yet to ascend the throne of his forebears.
