Five travellers kidnapped during Sowore brother’s murder in Edo


Police have began search and rescue operation for five persons who were reportedly kidnapped by gunmen linked to the murder of Olajide, the younger brother of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.

The Olajide, Pharmacy student of Igbinedion University, Okada in Edo State in the early hours of Saturday while five unidentified persons were kidnapped during the incident, according to police authorities.

Spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, SP Kotongs Bello disclosed in a statement.

He revealed that the remains of Olajide Sowore has been deposited at Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, IUTH mortuary in Okada while effort is ongoing to rescue the five kidnap victims.

Recall that Omoyele Sowore posted, “My immediate younger brother, Olajide Sowore was today shot and killed near Okada in Edo State by reportedly herdsmen/kidnappers on his way from Igbinedion University in Edo State where he is studying Pharmacy”.

“They snuffed out the life of yet another real human being! Rest In Power, “Dr. Mamiye!”

“This act in itself will not delay their day of justice”, he said.

Security has been beefed up in Igbinedion University, Okada, ahead of the 87th Birthday lecture series in honour of the founder of the institution and the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion on Monday September 6, 2021.
