Buhari, Tinubu medical tourism causes upset among Nigerians, amid doctors strike


Nigerians have criticised President Muhammadu Buhari and Chief Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC preference for medical tourism.

Just as medical doctors in Nigeria under the umbrella body of National Association of Residents Doctors, NARD are yet to call off its strike over poor welfare package and other issues of concern.

The reactions by Nigerians in social media Community, arose after the Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad on Thursday night shared photographs that the Nigerian leader, visited the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu in London.

They described the medical tourism embarked upon by the duo as insensitive, unpatriotic and another low gaffs amid worsening health crisis in Nigeria.

A Facebook user wrote: “They went for their health check up abroad leaving our health sectors scattered and the doctors on strike which leads to the death of many and putting many in worst situation”.

Ofonime U. Sam said, “How can leaders of the most populous black people be this shameless!

“While Nigerian doctors are on strike and poor Nigerians who cannot afford private health care are dying by the day, those they voted to provide and improvise our health care system are having the best times and enjoying the best health Care in another man’s land…

“Do African leaders have no shame at all? Do they sit and ask themselves how many western leaders visit Africa for health Care?

“What does it cost to have at least one world class health center here in Nigeria where our president and our so called elites can make use of without traveling out?”, he asked.

Another Nigerian, Adetoro Oba, wrote: “APC founder are sick and currently receiving treatment in London while our Doctors are on strike. No wonder everything in Nigeria is sick. Health is sick, Economy is sick, Education is sick, Security is sick etc”.

According to Oguh Paulinus Louismary, “The problem of Nigeria in one picture. Doctors are on strike over non payment and the president who should resign because of this strike is receiving treatment abroad with his best man.
“This two old men no get shame at all.
“It is dangerous to be a Nigerian”.

Also speaking, “Deji John Homolewo also wrote: “What baffled me most is that …lamentation of some people is not beyond social media… they won’t vote ,they won’t organize themselves for generational change’s.

“Politics is local …most youths belongs to either APC or PDP… they will still campaign for whoever their party”, he observed.

TheNewspad recalled that a few weeks ago, Buhari and Tinubu embarked on medical their trips at a different dates are yet to return to Nigeria.
