Close shave as thugs on orders of Edo Lawmaker attack property


*Okhuarobo denies allegation

Suspected thugs have reportedly invaded a parcel of land in Aduwawa Community Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State, leaving unspecified residents of the locality in close shave with death.


The hoodlums are believe to have acted at the behest of the Majority Leader of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Henry Okhuarobo in a bid to acquire the contested property despite a restraining court order at the Edo State, through a subversive means.

It was gathered that the armed thugs also razed down economic crops worth millions of Naira during the attack that caused uneasy calm that sent jitters down the spines of helpless neighbours during the alleged brigandage.

It was alleged that the perfidy by a top police officer simply identified as ACP Wale in charge of Ikpoba-Hill to ambush justice apparently to derail the investigation over alleged refusal by the Claimants, Mr. Osaigbovo Uwangue and Barrister Smart Agbonlahor to sell a portion of the disputed property to the Lawyer turned politician who hogs naked power in the 9th Assembly, escalated the crisis.

Trouble seems to have started when the the Edo lawmaker approached the owners of the property to sell a portion of the landed property to him to enable him build a hotel hence the property is situated at a choice area of Aduwawa, because they couldn’t reach an agreement.

Ostensibly angered by the aborted of transaction, the lawmaker, had threatened to use his government power to falsefully grab the land and unleash terror on him.

This followed his earlier threat and subsequent attempts by Okhuarobo, the owners of the property approached the High court which restrain Mr Okharuobo from trespassing, pending determination of the suit.

However in a twist of event a petition by in which the embattled lawmaker alleged that the owners of the landed property forged papers to take over his land, became the launchpad by the police personnel to truth on the alter of injustice and cover up his tracks.

It was further learnt that attempts to persuade the police officer that the allegation was false and draw his attention to a pending suit before a competent court of jurisdiction failed.

ACP Wale was alleged to have hurriedly charged the said Claimants to the parcel of land at Ogbeson Magistrates’ court apparently to fulfill his side of the allege bargain by the lawmaker suspected thugs allegedly invaded and attacked the property at night with gunshots, scaring everyone in sight away.

The hoodlums thereafter destroyed the fence before setting the economic crops on the parcel of land ablaze and threatened physical assault of anyone that trespasses forthwith.

Reacting to the incident the Majority Leader, Mr. Henry Okharuobo debunked the allegation.

He said his name was being dragged in the mud in an attempt to tarnish his image.

Recall that the State government prescribes a jail term for anyone that confiscates landed property belonging to individuals under the new Private Property Protection Law in Edo State.

The bill known as the Edo State Private Property Protection Law 2017, re-enacting the Edo State Private Property Protection Law 2021.
