Three killed, five arrested during Benue Commissioner’s wife rescue

Three suspected kidnappers have been killed during the rescue operation of the wife of Benue State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Mrs. Ann Unenge who was abducted by gunmen on Saturday.

The hoodlums died from gunshot injuries during the rescue mission on Sunday August 1, 2021 in Agber Village, a suburb of the state capital. according to the State police Command.

The Public Relations officer, Benue State police Command, DSP Catherine Anene confirmed the report on Monday.

She revealed that five suspects were trailed and arrested at Welfare Quarters, Makurdi, the State Capital.

Anene said the injured victims received gunshot injuries during the kidnap but are currently receiving treatment at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, (BUTH) Makurdi.

She also said police operatives are on the trail of some suspects now at large in connection with the incident.

According to the police PRO, “One AK47 rifle fully loaded with double magazine and two double barrel guns fully loaded with ammunition were recovered from the suspects”.

In the mean time, governor Samuel Ortom, has held a meeting with the rescued victim in the company of her husband, Mr. Bernard Unenge.

He declared there will be no hiding place for criminals in the State and commended the police for their gallantry and professionalism in the operation without paying any ransom to the kidnappers.

He also urged the team to ensure the arrest of the fleeing members of the gang with a directive to demolish the property used by the kidnappers immediately.

“We are working together with the security agencies. You don’t just review security matters sometimes because you will be exposing the victim.

“Throughout yesterday (Sunday) night and today, my security adviser is here and we are working with some conventional and unconventional security, they will be released”, he said.
