Four kidnapped naval personnel, mechanic regain freedom in Edo

Four naval personnel and a mechanic who were abducted by gunmen at Iruekpen in Esan West Local Government Ares of Edo State have been released.

Recall that tactical team of Edo State police Command had secured the release of five hostages while the search for five others continue, amidst backlash.

The quartet were among the 13 personnel undergoing a Course at the Naval College of Engineering, Sapele in Delta State.

Spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, Kotongs Bello in a statement said the hostages were released on Thursday night.

He said four naval personnel declined following police operatives to the Iruekpen Divisional police station while debriefing of the Mechanic is ongoing at the station.

According to him, “The four students of naval College of Engineering and one Mechanic have been released by their abductors today at 2035hrs. The students declined following police operatives to the station while debriefing of the Mechanic is presently ongoing at Iruekpen Divisional police headquarters.

Kotongs however did not state in the statement on Thursday whether any ransom was paid before the hostages were released after their bus was reportedly hijacked by hoodlums.
