UNIBEN nominated for N1bn grant


The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been nominated for N1 billon (One Billion Naira) Education grant along with five other Nigerian Universities by Abdulsamad Rabiu, ASR Africa Initiative.

A three man team from MD/CEO of ASR Africa Initiative, Mr Ubon Udoh presented the organisation’s nomination letter to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Lilian Salami at the instance of the Chairman of the BUA Group, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu at Ugbowo Campus on Tuesday.

This was disclosed in Press statement by Dr. (Mrs) Benedicta Ehanire, Public Relations officer, University of Benin.

The statement quoted Udoh as saying that UNIBEN qualified for the nomination as a result of the quality of its service delivery and impact on society, accessibility as well as its high level of gender sensitivity among others as part of Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu’s give back to the African continent initiative.

Part of the statement reads: “The Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami thanked the Chairman of the BUA Group, Alhaji Rabiu, for choosing the University of Benin for the grant which is expected to birth a state of the art ICT building and an ultra modern Students’ Affairs edifice in the Institution.

“The Vice Chancellor was confident that the Grant, when actualised, will greatly enhance the University’s infrastructure and also ensure global competitiveness of the graduates, many of who are currently making their marks in various spheres of endeavour”, according to the statement.
