Security agencies alleged requesting Salah handouts from VIPs, private individuals


Amidst claims that the welfare of security agents have been prioritised, some security agencies in Edo State have embarked on a massive food drive ahead of Eid-el-Kabir festival billed for July 20, 2021.

Recall that the federal government had declared next week Tuesday and Wednesday as public work-free-days to enable Muslims mark the 2021 Eid-el-Kabir — a religious festival celebrated by Muslims all over the world.

A top military officer who shared his thought at a popular relaxation Centre in Government Reservation Area, GRA in Benin City, said that the agency where he works had written letters to private Organisations and individuals in the State, requesting for support

He said the request for handouts to assist the Muslims among them have a pleasurable Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations with their families.

According to the military officer who preferred to be anonymous: “We all know that the economy is harsh at the moment. We have been writing letters to VIPs and some Organizations in the State.

“The State and federal ought to help, but we cannot depend on them because of our experiences in the past. So, we have been busy writing letters, requesting for support for our personnel to Celebrate Salah.
It is not something we enjoy doing, but we have to give it a trial and see if we can raise something”, he said.

The officer however did not reveal the names of very important persons (VIPs) and institutions that they requested the handouts from.

A survey at some of the markets in Benin City, the State Capital, revealed that prices of foodstuffs and livestock have soared; while the market demand is low.
