Why Igboho escaped night raid by joint security operatives — DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) says on Thursday night raid by a team of of joint security operatives at the residence of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo better known as Sunday Igboho in Soka area of Ibadan, offered him the choice to escape.

In the wake of the attack, Igboho, called of the mass rally to mobilise support for Yoruba nation in Lagos State, which was billed for Saturday.

DSS Spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, disclosed this in a briefing with journalists late this evening in Abuja.

He revealed that a female was among the 13 agitators that were arrested in the fatal operation in which two armed gang of Igboho were allegedly killed while a security personnel was injured in the gun battle.

Afunanya said the security personnel opted to raid Igboho’s home, following a credible security reports that he was stockpiling arms to cause chaos in his phantom “Yoruba Nation”.

He gave the names of the arrested suspects during the drill as Abdulateef Ofeyagbe, Amoda Babatunde aka Lady K (female) and Tajudeen Erinoyen. Others are Diakola Ademola, Abideen Shittu, Jamiu Noah, Ayobami Donald, Adelabe Usman, Oluwafelumi Kunle, Raji Kazeem, Taiwo Opeyemi and
Bamidele Sunday.

A large cache of arms, ammunition, charms and other exhibits were also recovered by the operatives, according to the DSS spokesman who urged the agitator to turn himself in or be tracked down.

The Press reads in part: “In the early hours (about 0134 hours) of today, 1st July, 2021, a joint team of security operatives raided the residence of Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo a.k.a. SUNDAY IGBOHO at Soka, Ibadan, Oyo State.

“This was based on intelligence that he had stockpiled arms in the place. On approach to the residence, the team came under heavy gun attack by nine (9) men, suspected to be IGBOHO’s guards. Six (6) of them were armed with AK-47 gun and Three (3) others, with Pump-Action riffles.

“In the course of the exchange, two (2) of Igboho’s armed men were gunned down while the rest were subdued and arrested.

“Only one operative who was shot by the assailants on his right hand sustained injury. He has however received medical attention and is very stable”, according to the DSS spokesman.
