Benue police kill 14 bandits on mission to free ‘detained criminals’


Police have killed 14 suspected bandits who were on a mission to free arrested and detained five-man criminal gang at the Kastina-Ala police Division in Local Government Area of Benue State.


Police Public Relations officer (PRO), Benue State Command, DSP Catherine Anene in a statement said the incident occurred at about 0130hrs on Saturday.

She said 14 out of about 50 hoodlums that invaded the station meant their waterloo in a shoot out with police operatives in a bid to
rescue their counterpart who were arrested and detained at the police facility.

Anene on behalf of the State Commissioner of police, said: “Officers at the division who were already at alert engaged them in a gun duel and were able to subdue the bandits.

“Fourteen (14) of them were brought down during the exchange of fire while several others escaped with gunshot injuries. Operatives in the area are currently on the trail of suspects at large.

The statement advised the good people of Kastina-Ala town to remain calm and avail every useful information about the bandits to the police.
