Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has thrown Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Edo State secretariat into darkness.

The secretariat located at 1, Reservation Road in Benin City, was disconnect by the Company over undisclosed electricity debt owed by the Union at about 11a.m on Friday June 18, 2021.

An official of Edo NUJ, had appealed to the BEDC staff not to disconnect the premises and asked for extension of time to sort-out the unpaid electricity bills occasioned a faulty metre, fell into deaf ears.

Before the sodden turn of event, the leadership of NUJ in 2018, made a requisition to the electricity Company to provide a replacement for the faulty metre through a Business Manager of BEDC in charge of the area.
