Protesting youths have blocked Benin Ehor-Auchi highway over incessant kidnappings and killings on the axis.
The action of the angry youths to draw the government attention to their plight, caused pandemonium among Abuja bound travellers and other road users who were stranded for hours.
One of the protesters from Ehor Community said in a recorded video that: “They are lawful Nigerians. We gathered here this morning for peace and not for war.
“But just yesterday (Tuesday) some residents of Esanland went to Benin to buy provision. They (bandits) killed the man.
“Elsewhere around Owan axis in Edo State, an expatriate was kidnapped after shooting the security personnel that were attached to him.
“We do not have arms and ammunition. What we are simply asking for is for the government to come and rescue us. We do not want to fight”.
“Governor Godwin Obaseki should come to our rescue. We have a lot of graduates who are farmers in our Village who are farmers.
“We are no longer safe at home and even when we are going to our farm, we are now scared over activities of killer herdsmen in the bushes.
“Aside from that, when our people are travelling to Benin on a business trip, midway, herdsmen will attack our people including women and take them into the bush.
“While some unlucky women are raped and exchanged for ransom along with their make counterpart.
“We have had instances when some kidnapped victims were made to pay the sum of N300,000 and N500,000 as well as N1,000,000,000 ransom to kidnappers to regain their freedom. If you are asked to pay N1,000,000,000 ransom as a peasant farmer do you think it is easy?”, the middle-aged dark in complexion man lamented.
