Obaseki announces deadline for submission of appointees’ names


The Edo State Government has asked Local Government Councils and Ward leaders to nominate and submit names of their Candidates who would be considered for appointments in his cabinet.

Governor Godwin Obaseki who made the assertion when he met with leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo North Senatorial District at the weekend, said the names of qualified nominees should be submitted before Tuesday June 15, 2021.

Speaking at the enlarged meeting of the party in Jattu, Etsako-West LGA, the Governor emphasized that only competent persons will be considered in the appointments, adding that women and youths would be given priority.

“I also urged all council area and ward leaders to nominate their very best candidates, as I thrive to build a world-class government. All these nominations must happen before 15th of June 2021.

According to him, “my administration will adopt a bottom-to-top approach in appointing persons to occupy political positions”.

Since the Governor was sworn-in for a second term in office on November 12, 2020, he has appointed only two aides.

The aides are Mr. Osarodon Ogie, Secretary to the State Government and the recent appointment of Mr. Osaigbovo Iyoha, Chief of Staff to the Governor after the supreme court cleared him of certificate forgery and validated his mandate as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.

Recall that Edo State Chapter of PDP has being embroiled in crisis over alleged plans to dissolve the State Executive Committee (SEC) elected executive Committee members of PDP.
