Idahosa leads Bishops in prayers against insecurity, secession

Benin Metropolitan College of Bishops from Church of God Mission International (CGMi) have invoked the mercy of God’s mercy over the worsening security crisis and calls for secession in Nigeria.

The intercessory prayers held at the Benin national museum ground located at the King square in Benin City, was led by Bishop Feb Idahosa, son of late Archbishop Benson Idahosa who converged on the same venue to raise altar of prayer against ‘witches and wizards’ and military rule in Nigeria over 25 years ago.

Speaking on the significance of the spiritual exercise, which lasted for one hour, the Director of Administration, Church of God Mission International, Reverend Odemwingie Okundaye, predicted that Nigeria situation would be worse-off than former Yugoslavia and Somalia in terms of economic and political stability if the nation is allowed to drift further.

He demanded an end to the killings and attacks on churches along with other places of worship, schools and kidnappings as well as other violent crimes in Nigeria.

“I do not believe that we should secede. I know that some people may say that Nigeria is a contrivance of the British, but if God did not endorse it, it would not have happened. What I advocate for is that there should be justice in the land.

“Rather, there should be justice, fairness. When the man on the street knows that the man in government cares for him, he would have less things to worry about. We should be our neighbours keeper, that is what will bring about people. It is not secession that will bring peace, but justice, equity, fairness and development that will bring peace in Nigeria”, he advised.

According to him, “Nigeria is a land that is so blessed with resources and it became imperative for us a church – seeing all the things that we have experienced so far to come together with one voice to speak to God, enough is a enough of the carnage. Enough of the destruction.

“Let’s things turn around again. Let Nigeria be set on the right course for progress, development again and let the people of this nation have peace. Let the innocent blood that have been shared far stop. That is why we all came to pray against it. And he hears the voice of his children when they pray”, the Cleric said

The Convener of the programme, Bishop Feb Idahosa, assured that Nigeria will work and Nigerians dreams for greatness must be realised through fervent and effective prayers of righteous people.

“So, we have declared today that Nigeria will work in our lifetime. We have got the dream that it will happen in our life time. God’s people shall lead God’s people”, he said.

The Cleric also said it is time for God’s people to takeover leadership in accordance with divine mandate for service especially in areas of sports, Education, entertainment and other areas.

He also said: “We are expecting more. We believe that when the people of God come together to pray and speak over their nation, God will intervene.

The theme of the prayer was “heaven will intervene”. It also featured Bible recitation, praise and worship by believers of Christ from different denominations.
